During the 2006-2007 academic year, I signed up to a
creative writing class, Writing at the Museum. It was
taught by Sue Morgan in the
National Museum of Wales
in Cardiff. This was not quite your ordinary creative
writing course as it was quite open in form and nature. Not
much theory was involved, and the writing was based around
Museum collections and exhibitions.
I particularly enjoyed writing poetry around a variety
of themes:
-
Nautilus, inspired by the cephalopoda collection and
the adventures of W. Evans Hoyle;
- Glass,
inspired by the glass art of father and son Blashka;
- Monet's
Impressions, inspired by Claude Monet's last days and
his paintings;
- Vincent,
inspired by the life and final paintings of Vincent van
Gogh;
